Keynote speaker: Mandy Hickson

GWO is excited to welcome Mandy Hickson as a keynote speaker for the Safety & Training Forum on October 4th.

GWO is excited to welcome Mandy Hickson as a keynote speaker  for the Safety & Training Forum on October 4th. After GWO CEO, Jakob Lau Holst summarises the day’s findings, Mandy rounds off the afternoon’s proceedings at 16:00 with an inspirational talk that provides a lively setting for the GWO Safety & Training Awards which follow at 17:00.

Mandy is an experienced international speaker who has made a name for herself by drawing on her experience as a pioneering female fighter jet pilot for the British, Royal Air Force. After being awarded an RAF scholarship at 17, Mandy continually proved her prowess in the sky. Only the second female to pilot a state-of-the-art Tornado GR4 jet on the front line, she undertook 45 missions in the ‘No Fly’ zone over Iraq.

For the Forum’s presentation Mandy’s experience in the air is re-focusing on the role of instructor excellence in professional development. This echoes a core belief of GWO, that safety training instructors are indispensable to a smooth transition to clean energy globally. Mandy will present her experience of decision making under extreme pressure, in particular the role of ‘the human in the system’ in these processes. A highly relevant standpoint for all participants, who well understand  the high-risk environment in which wind technicians work.
