Forum Programme: Building Tomorrow's Workforce

This October in Madrid, the GWO Safety & Training Forum will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, educators and training providers to tackle one of the industry’s most urgent challenges: how to build and scale a skilled workforce capable of delivering on 3xRenewables.

The Forum’s newly announced programme offers a rich blend of panel discussions, case studies, workshops and forward-looking debates. Together, these sessions explore workforce development from multiple angles.

International speakers will share how public policy, cross-border cooperation and the harmonisation of national and international standards can drive workforce expansion. GWO will introduce the tools we’re developing to support this work, including national training guidelines and a growing library of defined job roles.

From there, the conversation turns to education: how do we ensure there are accessible pathways into wind for young people and career and sector changers? The Forum will showcase real-world collaborations between training providers and educational institutions, as well as GWO’s new REcognition programme.  By integrating GWO standards into formal vocational curricula, these partnerships are creating clearer, faster routes into the sector.

Quality is as critical as quantity. A dedicated workshop session will explore what “good” really looks like in training environments — not just in terms of physical facilities, but also quality and alignment with real industry needs. Participants will hear directly from a GWO member about their state-of-the-art training centre and join an open discussion on an upcoming GWO initiative: standardised assessments.

Deep Dive: GWO Solar Training Standards

The Forum will broaden its focus to another rapidly growing renewable sector: solar. Industry associations, member companies and training providers will examine how standardised training could benefit the solar industry, drawing lessons from GWO’s experience in wind to help shape scalable, quality-driven training models for solar technicians.

The Forum promises practical tools, industry- led perspectives and open discussions about what it will really take to deliver the skilled workforce needed for the energy transition. We look forward to welcoming you in Madrid this October and build solutions together.
