Forum ’26: Lessons from Human Factors Research for the Wind Workforce

With the GWO Safety & Training Forum & Awards 2026 on the horizon, learn more about the Human Factors workshop session on this year’s programme.

Forum participants in dialogue during a workshop session

Every day, wind technicians building, maintaining, and repairing turbines depend on their environment to return home safely. Human factors - the elements which make up the psychology behind how people behave across a variety of sectors and settings – are crucial for improving safety and operational performance, and yet they remain relatively underexplored within the wind industry.

At this year’s Forum, you’ll hear from Dr Ruby Roberts, Chancellor's Fellow of Industrial Psychology at Robert Gordon University, as she addresses this current gap in human factors research through a concise overview of her research that maps the key human factors which affect work in the wind industry. As part of the podium presentations alongside Julie Brown, Head of Training Development at GWO, and Julie House, Safety, Performance, and Leadership Coach at CAVU International, Ruby will also share insights into human factors from a recent survey of wind industry workers.

Your Forum: A Scenario-Based Approach to Exploring Human Factors

In the spirit of active learning transfer, as the global training community explores the practical implications of human factors, you’ll get the chance to take part in an interactive, scenario-based workshop as part of this Forum session, “Harnessing the Human Factor”. Drawing on real-life examples from the wind industry, you’ll use knowledge and teamwork to identify the top three human factors involved and consider how to respond to each situation. Through dialogue and sharing your experience, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how human factors shape decision-making, performance, and safety outcomes in the wind industry.

Be the First to Know

Whether you’re a Forum first-timer or seasoned attendee, one thing is for certain. If you’re curious about human factors within the context of our industry’s evolving training landscape and if you’re serious about collaborating with your peers to explore the emerging challenges and opportunities for the future of the wind and solar workforce, then this is the event for you.
