Winning Stories from the Safety & Training Awards
During the 2022 edition, Global Wind Organisation was proud to award Matthew Thompson from Safer at Work with the Young Achiever Award. The Young Achiever Award shines a light on young talent in the industry. Matthew stood out in the 2022 edition for his commitment to continuous improvement of learning environments and delivery.
Matthew reflects on his accomplishments, stating “I was honoured to be named GWO Young Achiever of the Year in 2022, since then we have continued to grow as a company which has allowed me to continue to develop professionally, and continue to push our development of digital technologies, mental health in the industry, and other topics as part of our training.
Safer at Work is a company that prides itself on our ability to bring new people into the wind industry, as well as developing new trainers. We have put a particular focus on creating realistic training scenarios, supporting new instructors taking their first steps, and fostering a productive learning environment for younger instructors to progress alongside more experienced colleagues. It was therefore a pleasure to have that effort recognised and our achievements highlighted.
Young Achiever of the Year was of course also a massive personal achievement, and one that I have felt very proud of receiving. I think it is really important to recognise young achievers as often it can be hard to find your place amongst more experienced colleagues, and the learning curve can be enormous. By recognising the efforts of young achievers, we can encourage not only these achievers themselves that this is a rewarding career to pursue, but also encourage companies to take on and give people the space to really be a part of pushing the industry forward.”
GWO looks forward to celebrating new talent in the industry as well as outstanding Training Teams and Instructors this year at the Safety & Training Awards ceremony on October 9th during the Safety & Training Forum in Orlando.

Global Wind Organisation and the Global Solar Council (GSC) have announced a new initiative to introduce training standards for the world’s solar PV technician workforce.
The GWO General Assembly met on 21st Mar 2024 in Spain. During the busy programme GWO member representative discussed GWO Workforce '26 Strategy and elected a trio of new representatives to the Board of Directors.
