GWO is advancing standardised assessments, systems, and processes to improve consistency and training quality across the industry.

Following feedback gathered from our community and subsequent dialogue with Training Providers, GWO’s work to standardise training participant assessments is moving into its next phase.
During the GWO Safety & Training Forum '25, assessment emerged as one of the strongest areas for increased standardisation and digitalisation. Forum participants highlighted the importance of clearer pass/fail criteria, greater consistency in the measurement of learning outcomes, and the potential value of digitalising administrative processes to support more standardised evaluations.
Earlier this year, we began a collaborative process with a sample of Training Providers, who shared examples of current theory tests to assist with the development of new standardised tests for relevant GWO modules. We had a great response and this input is now being used to ensure future standardised testing is relevant and leads to greater consistency in assessment outcomes. We will also be reaching out to a wider network of Training Providers for input in months to come.
A key focus of the next stage is user experience. As we explore a future digital solution for assessments and theory testing, we will begin engaging directly with Training Provider administrators and instructors to better understand administrative processes in different settings.
The goal is to ensure that any future system is intuitive for end users while enabling reliable, high-quality data collection that supports stronger training outcomes across the industry.
By combining standardisation with practical input from those delivering training every day, we are aiming to create assessment processes that strengthen quality, improve consistency, and support long-term evidence-based development across the training community.
