Basic Technical Training Standard

GWO has developed a Standard Package for Basic Technical Training. The training includes the following courses:

_________________________________________________________________________________

The Basic Maintenance Training (BMT) Standard has been reviewed by a dedicated GWO work group with the intent of optimizing the standard. This review has resulted in an update by the GWO Training Committee including a full pilot course.
We are therefore pleased to release the final version of the updated standard.
Please note the following key points:

  • The naming of the standard is changed to the GWO Basic Technical Training Standard (BTT) Version 3
  • The required duration of the training is reduced to 31 hours and 20 minutes by removing redundancy and re-arranging/combining lessons
  • For Training Providers already certified as BMT providers there will be no requirement to recertify. This will be covered at the renewal of certification after three years
  • The BMT record in WINDA will be changed to three individual BTT records - Electrical, Mechanical and Hydraulics. This applies to future uploads and all existing records will also automatically be converted to the three individual records  instead of a BMT record.

Effective date
GWO members will expect technicians working on their wind turbines to have a valid GWO BMT Certificate from 31/03/2018.

Recognition of prior qualifications & experience
As previously communicated, GWO recognises that many experienced technicians working in the wind industry have equivalent or superior knowledge and skills to those defined in the BTT Standard. A merit process has therefore been developed which enables companies to perform a self assessment of their current staff. You can read about the merit process and how to apply for a license as Merit Assessor here.
