Shanghai: An increasing volume of wind energy technicians are being trained to GWO Standards.

Global Wind Organisation member Shanghai Electric is stepping up its Basic Safety Training for technicians, with a new local sourcing arrangement.

The Wind Energy company will work with Legan in Shanghai, which is forming a GWO certified training operation in co-operation with Maersk Training.

Jakob Lau Holst, CEO of Global Wind Organisation, explains: “Legan’s partnership with Maersk Training is the first of its kind in China. The companies will collaborate to develop a GWO certified training infrastructure and course programme that can support Shanghai Electric’s requirements for Basic Safety Training.

“China already has a growing footprint of GWO certified training providers. In the first half of 2018 more than 600 technicians were trained to the GWO BST standard.”

Shilin Wang, General Manager at Legan, explained: “We are very pleased to have agreed with Maersk Training and look forward to the partnership which will support our customer’s needs in wind turbine technician training with skills taught to a recognized global standard.”

The partnership has been engineered through Maersk Broker, which is supporting Legan in its development of safe O&M services for Chinese offshore wind, utilising global standards like GWO and global know how.

Maersk Broker's Torben Ørting Jørgensen, said: "We are working closely together with Legan, Shanghai local government and Shanghai Electric Group and this partnership is an important step forward.

Johan Uggla, CEO at Maersk Training, added: “This is a very exciting development for our business. Chinese wind energy is the world’s single largest market and we are pleased Legan has chosen Maersk Training to help them deliver GWO Basic Safety Training into the region."
